Mummy Resurgance is a 2021 British horror film about a small group of archaeology students that accidentally awaken an ancient mummy. After being trapped in a time loop, the only way they can escape is to defeat the mummy. As the body count rises, it seems the mummy has to collect the souls of those who woke him to be able to walk the Earth – for good.
The film opens with the Mummy (Richard Lovell) chasing people around the woods before being stopped by a ritual that involves a bag of plant food, an obviously rubber human heart and an incantation from an old book rather than the papyrus scroll that the Egyptians would have written on. The army shows up in time to shoot the youths performing the ritual.
Directed by Antonia Johnstone (an actress in Devil Djinn; Medusa: Queen of the Serpents; The Leprechaun’s Game; Cupid and this movie as Mora) – making her directorial debut – from a screenplay written by Shannon Holiday (Amityville Cornfield; Tooth Fairy; Bride of Scarecrow; House on Elm Lake; et al). Johnstone also provided the special makeup effects and costumes.
